π₯ Before You Build Higher, Build Deeper
Share
Over the past three weeks, we've been on a journey:
- Week 1: Rise From the Reclining Place (Get up.)
- Week 2: Keep Building When Opposition Comes (Don't stop.)
- Week 3: Build on a Solid Foundation (Build correctly.)
This week, I want to ask a simple question:
ποΈ What Are You Building On?
Jesus said:
"Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them... shall be likened unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock."
(Matthew 7:24)
Notice something about the story:
- Both men built.
- Both houses faced storms.
- Both experienced rain.
- Both experienced wind.
- Both experienced floods.
The difference was not the storm.
The difference was the foundation.
- One house stood.
- One house fell.
Not because of what happened around it, but because of what was underneath it.
Before God builds higher, He often builds deeper.
π Spiritual Disciplines Build the Foundation
Joshua 1:8 reminds us that success begins with God's Word.
Before Joshua could lead a nation outwardly, he had to be formed inwardly.
The same principle applies to us.
Spiritual disciplines help strengthen our foundation:
- Prayer
- God's Word
- Meditation
- Worship
- Fasting
- Fellowship with God
These practices are not about earning God's love.
They are about knowing Him more deeply.
β€οΈ Your Relationship Must Become Personal
Acts 17:11 tells us that the Bereans searched the Scriptures daily for themselves.
- A pastor can teach you.
- A mentor can encourage you.
- A teacher can guide you.
But no one can develop your relationship with God for you.
At some point, you must:
- Open the Word yourself.
- Seek God yourself.
- Hear His voice for yourself.
God desires relationship, not second-hand information.
π Don't Miss the Presence
The rich young ruler in Mark 10 was disciplined, moral, and committed.
Yet when Jesus exposed the true condition of his heart, he walked away sorrowful.
His discipline was present.
His surrender was not.
The goal is not merely:
- To pray β The goal is to meet with God.
- To fast β The goal is transformation.
- To read the Word β The goal is obedience.
The disciplines are not the destination.
God is.
ππ½ A Moment of Reflection
Ask yourself:
- What am I building my life on?
- Have I neglected my foundation?
- Am I spending time with God or merely completing religious activities?
- Is my relationship with God first-hand or second-hand?
- Have I become more disciplined but not more surrendered?

π₯ Final Thought
Psalm 127:1 reminds us:
"Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it."
If God is not building it, it will not last.
But when Christ is your foundation, what God establishes will endure.
